I want to get a frequent flyer credit card but I already have 3 credit cards with generous limits. I don’t need these credit cards and I would like to cancel them and have this “possible credit” to go towards the new card. I heard once that canceling a credit card has a negitive effect on your credit score. Is this true? If so, how do I switch credit cards and avoid affecting my credit score in a bad way?

i am having a very difficult time paying down the balances that I owe on my credit cards. I’ve tried calling them up myself and negotiating the interest rate, but they refuse to lower it. I can barely afford the minimum payments and just want to be done with this. I don’t want to file for bankruptcy, I’m just looking for other methods of helping me eliminate this debt that I carry. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My credit score is still in the 400′s. I paid off all of my collections and my credit cards. I recently purchased a new car with a co-signer and i pay more than my monthly payment. But my credit score is still in the 400′s and it’s been more than a year since i paid everything off. Is there any other way to improve my credit score?

say you are in good staying, never was late. always payed the balance. but you have too many credit cards let’s say. so when you cancel that credit card. what happens to your credit score? Does your credit limit you had for that card get erased from the records? after all those years of building the credit limit to help the credit score. what happens to it? and what happens to your score? i’m just curious.

About how long does it take to go from a shaky credit score to a good credit score? I have about five credit cards, should I pay them all off and wait? How long must one wait until their credit score is back in the “good” side?

My husband and I hit a financial hard spot about a year ago. Since then we have worked hard to catch up on all our bills and pay them on time. We would like to buy a house in about 3 years. (We own a condo at the moment) Would 3 years be long enough to raise our credit scores? Other than paying our bills and paying off some of the balances that we owe is there another way to raise our credit scores? We plan on keeping our credit cards once we get them paid off because we were told that as long as we charge something once a month and then pay that off every month it will help with our credit score. Any other advice?
